On coincidences

This the first installment of a potentially long-running series on various Wikipedia quirks.

Caricaturists

Take these two guys, for example. Adriano Cecioni and Carlo Pellegrini

Adriano Cecioni was an Italian. Carlo Pellegrini was an Italian, too.
Adriano Cecioni was a caricaturist for Vanity Fair. Yes, you guessed it, Carlo Pellegrini was a caricaturist for Vanity Fair as well.
Mr Cecioni started to work for Vanity Fair three years after Mr Pellegrini, while Mr Pellegrini was born three years after Mr Cecioni.
Speaking of which, Adriano Cecioni lived to 49 years of age. Yes, Carlo Pellegrini lived to the same exact 49 years of age.

… and now, for the uncanny part

Adriano Cecioni died two months and three days before his 50th birthday. Carlo Pellegrini, as if in spite, died the SAME EXACT two months and three days before his 50th birthday.

Richard Edwards

Moving on… the case of a certain Richard Edwards vs. a certain other Richard Edwards. Apart from having the exact same names living in the same era (18th century), they also shared the same jobs. Yes, that’s right, not just one job. They were both Royal Navy officers, even to the point of being promoted in the same year (1740), but they also shared the responsibility of being a governor of the Newfoundland province. They do not appear to be related.

Jonathan Dickinson

Then we have Jonathan Dickinson, who died 59 years old and another Jonathan Dickinson who also died when 59 years of age. And both of them were significantly involved in Philadelphia.

Williams the Zoologists

Next, take William Yarrell and William Buckland. Both were Williams (for a start), born in the same year — and died in the same year, as well. Surprisingly 🙂 they lived to the same age. But more importantly, they had a very similar job. One was a zoologist and naturalist, while the other was a famous palaentologist.
